Countertops

Refinishing countertops is easy once a person knows the type of counter top they want to put in and acquire the tools necessary to get the job done.

The first step is to take down the existing counter top. This can be difficult depending on what type of countertop one has installed. Sometimes the counter top can be pried off using a crowbar or a hammer. But with heavier countertops, like a granite countertop, breaking it off into sections and removing it that way can be a time-consuming chore.

Refinishing countertops is best accomplished with two people or more. Once the counter top has been removed, placing the counter top in its place is fairly easy.

The second step after removing old countertops is to sand down the edges and apply and adhesive that is both water resistant and can sustain heat. The last step to counter top refinishing is to attach the new counter top. This is usually done in sections unless the countertop will be made of tile. In this case, a wood board is placed over the cabinets and the tiles are applied. This can take a long time depending on the pattern, if there is one, and waiting for the tile to dry before grouting it.

If a person is not comfortable with refinishing countertops by themselves, there are many companies that specialize in this remodeling project. Finding one in one’s home town is best by using word of mouth. This project should not take more than two days. After which, a person will have a new counter top that they can use and enjoy for many years to come.

Refinishing countertops is an inexpensive way to update any cabinet system and bring color and class back into the kitchen or bathroom space.
